Building a Community Matrimonial Web App: Registration, Search and Payments in Gujarati and English
In short
Shree Samast Khadayata Yuva Samaj in Nadiad has run its Sneh Sambandh jivansathi sammelan for 42 years. I'm building its new web app: online matrimonial registration and search, member logins, membership and donations with online payment — in Gujarati and English.
Community matrimonial meets — sammelans — run on trust, paperwork and a lot of phone calls. Shree Samast Khadayata Yuva Samaj in Nadiad, Gujarat, has organised its “Sneh Sambandh” jivansathi sammelan for 42 years, and for the last five for the wider Vaishnav Vanik community too. Its current website, khadayatasamaj.org, is a single page with a few sections. The new one I'm building is a full web app: matrimonial registration and search, member accounts, membership and donations with online payment, events, history and a gallery — Gujarati first, with English on every page.
From a one-page website to a community web app
The old site lists Home, About, Team, Gallery, Donation, Updates and Contact on one page. It tells visitors the Samaj exists, but members can't do anything on it — register for the sammelan, pay a membership, or see what's coming up.
The new site keeps the Samaj's identity — the emblem, the maroon and gold, the motto “સંસ્કાર • સમાજ • સેવા • સંકલન” — and adds the things members actually come for.

Sneh Sambandh: the matrimonial system
The heart of the app is the matrimonial section, built around how the sammelan already works:

- Online registration form for candidates and families.
- “My registration” to check and update a profile.
- Search, so families can find suitable profiles.
- Successful matches, celebrating couples who met through the sammelan.
Personal data needs care
Matrimonial profiles hold some of the most personal information a person shares: age, family, education, photos, contact details. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Samaj is responsible for collecting only what it needs, using it only for the sammelan, keeping it secure and deleting it when it's no longer needed.
In practice a matrimonial system should show profiles only to logged-in, verified members, ask for consent at registration that says exactly how details will be used, and give families a simple way to withdraw a profile — that's the standard I'm building to.
Gujarati first, English everywhere
Most members read Gujarati; younger members and relatives abroad often prefer English. Every page has a Gujarati / English switch in the header, and each page declares its language so browsers and search engines read it correctly.
Gujarati type is set in Baloo Bhai 2, a font designed for the script, so matras and conjuncts render cleanly on every phone.
Membership, donations and payments
Members can sign up and pay membership online, and donors can give through the site with an online payment instead of cash at an event. A donors' page thanks contributors.
Events (Satyanarayan Katha, Shrinathji ni Jhanki, the Sneh Sammelan, indoor games) and the latest updates sit on the home page, so the site stays current between sammelans.
Reaching the community
Most of the community is already on WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. A WhatsApp button on every page, and Meta ads that open a WhatsApp chat during registration season, bring families to the form with almost no friction.
Corrections from the Samaj's first review are being made now; the matrimonial and payment features go live after that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a matrimonial site be in Gujarati and English?
Yes — every page is available in both languages with a switch in the header, and the page's language is declared so browsers and search engines read it correctly.
How should a samaj protect matrimonial profiles?
Show profiles only to logged-in, verified members, collect consent at registration, collect only what's needed, and let families withdraw a profile — in line with India's DPDP Act, 2023.
Can members pay membership and donations online?
Yes. The web app takes membership fees and donations through an online payment gateway.
Key Takeaways
- Build the matrimonial flow around how the sammelan already works: register, update, search, celebrate matches.
- Treat profiles as sensitive personal data — member-only, consented and removable.
- Gujarati first, with English one tap away on every page.
- Online membership and donations turn a once-a-year event into a year-round community site.
